My Travel Plans is owned by Steven Smith (contact: hello@mytravelplans.co.uk). This page explains what the site stores and what other companies may see.
What we store
- No visitor accounts, no comments, no forms, and no analytics or tracking scripts.
- When someone clicks a link to another website, we count the click: the link’s name, the page it was on and the time — nothing about you. Our web host also keeps normal server logs.
- If you email us, we keep your email only as long as we need it to reply.
Your trip planner
The trip planner runs entirely in your browser. Your trips, checklists, packing lists, notes and saved stays are kept in your browser’s local storage on your device (under the name mtp-trips-v1) and are never sent to us. “Save a copy” creates a file on your own device; “Load a copy” reads a file you choose, in your browser. Clearing your browsing data deletes your plans.
When you go to our Expedia Travel Shop
Our “Expedia shop” buttons take you to our Travel Shop on Expedia’s website. From then on you are on Expedia, under Expedia’s own privacy statement: Expedia and its affiliate tracking may set cookies so that a booking can be credited to us. We don’t receive your name, contact or payment details.
Banner ads and the cookie choice
Our travel guides (and only those pages) can show banner ads. The first time you visit, a bar asks whether you accept ads cookies. If you choose Accept ads cookies, guide pages load banners from 5od (our own ad service at 5od.co.uk), and the banners come from the affiliate network Awin, which may set cookies when a banner loads or when you click it (see Awin’s privacy notice). If you choose Reject, or have JavaScript turned off, nothing is requested from 5od or Awin. We remember your choice on your device for six months. You can change it any time with Cookie settings. More on our cookies page.
Other links
Links to official sources (GOV.UK, train operators, hotels’ websites) and to our sister sites open those websites, which have their own privacy policies.
Your rights
You can ask what we hold about you, or ask us to delete it, by emailing us. If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office: ico.org.uk.
